I CONQUER MY FEARS THROUGH TRAVEL
Two pivotal moments in my life changed how I view travel: when I met my husband and found a soulmate who challenged me beyond my fear and depression AND when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and realized that health was a finite resource. Clinical depression was a childhood playmate of mine and although I was an adventurous Amelia Earhart in my mind, in reality I let fear prevent me from experiencing the world around me. Much to my regret, I missed several opportunities to travel in high school because of it.
I overcame those fears in my 20s and by my 30s I was happy as a lark travelling the country with my hubbie Eric. Then medical issues struck and I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 33. Having experienced what it was like to not be able to walk or wash my own hair, I realized I couldn’t take life for granted and so jumpstarted my desire to see as much of the world as I can before life prevents me from doing so again.
In addition to this personal blog, I created and actively maintain Trips to Walkabout — my passion project that promotes my favorite form of travel. This site promotes walking holidays and reviews the tour companies that offer them. Think of it as your walking holiday matchmaker.
This blog is about more than just travel tips and “look at the beautiful photos of all the places I’ve been.” My hope is that this travel blog inspires you to plan your own trips, wherever they may be, and to find the resources and support that you need to do so. Thinking about destinations for myself and others is therapeutic for me, so let’s journey together…one blog posting at a time.
