Oh the dilemma, the epic struggle of the modern woman…how to be comfortable & look sexy at the same time. This frustrating dichotomy rears its ugly head every time I have a special event, hot date night, or when I’m planning a European trip (where they judge you by your shoes). The wardrobe piece that seems to cause the most distress is the high heel. To me, it’s a good symbol of society’s conflicting expectations of womanhood. The perfect woman is supposed be both sex goddess & nurturing mother.
I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to be sexy in sneakers and it’s damn near impossible to put in a full day at home or office in stilettos. So what’s a girl to do?
Find your super woman shoes!
Maybe it’s an expensive pair of Italian stilettos or that cute wedge that Kate Middleton wears, but for me it’s a classic pump. And not just any pump — the Lifestride Parigi Pump is my “go to” shoe anytime I want to feel sexy or powerful. I own SIX PAIRS of the exact same shoe, in various colors & if I can ever find that elusive mint green that came out a few years ago, I’ll own MORE!
Sure, I know it’s not Prada or L.K. Bennett & it most certainly isn’t Louboutin. But you know what? It’s a $60 shoe that I can usually get on sale for $40, wear it ALL day & feel like a super woman. And because the heel isn’t some stick thin twig, these shoes last — I’ve never had to repair the heel (unlike other more expensive brands I’ve had in past). For someone with rheumatoid arthritis and chronic knee pain, this shoe is a miracle. I really can wear it to work all day & not have issues. My feet will be a little more tired than when I wear soft flats, but they don’t hurt & I can run in these shoes if I have to. Ask my coworkers, they’ve seen this librarian sprint in her red heels!
Maybe six pairs of the same shoe is a bit obsessive, but the point is that every woman should have that one shoe that she feels confident in — because she looks great in it AND can comfortably get through a busy day being the awesome super woman she is. In my case, that just happens to be the very affordable Lifestride Parigi…which I have just discovered has a whole new set of Spring colors…oh boy!!!!
