I don’t have children, as was made clear in my last post. Therefore I am no expert on the joys & sorrows of traveling with kids. However, I care deeply for my siblings who DO have children & I enjoy encouraging them to explore places beyond Disney World. So if you’re looking for inspiration on family travel, read on!
If you have children, chances are your time is VERY limited. For this reason, I won’t recommend books (even though there are some great travel guides geared specifically for families). Instead, I’m listing my favorite blogs & websites that focus on this topic. My criteria for selecting these:
Must provide useful, relevant information
Must be interesting
Longevity — preference given to sites that have been around for awhile
That being said, here are my Top 10 Family Travel sites:
If you’re venturing outside the US, this is a great site with particular focus on hotel reviews for families. Destinations include Europe, Antarctica, Iceland, Australia…can’t get more adventurous than this!
This Canadian family blogs about their family vacations for the past 20 years! Excellent site, created by an award-winning travel writer. I especially like that it’s from the perspective of a typical family who fits travel into their normal life, NOT a family who travels the globe full-time.
Excellent site with great advice on US destinations (& more). Well-written & designed with a Family Traveler’s Handbook that’s recommended by many of the blogs listed here.
Fabulous site with great contributors all across the US & world who share their favorite family trip itineraries, travel tips, gear reviews & more. What makes it unique is that it encourages review submissions from EVERYONE, making this a well-balanced selection of opinions & advice.
Another great time-tested site written by an award-winning travel writer & author. Family Travel 411 continues her blog with school-age children. Excellent travel advice on both sites.
