Eric and I have always been old souls when it comes to travel. Our honeymoon is proof of that. When you think of a honeymoon destination, it probably involves an exotic beach or romantic ski lodge or edgy places like Vegas. You don’t picture a minivan driving around New Hampshire hunting for covered bridges. Listening to the greatest hits by Nat King Cole. Staying at a bed & breakfast whose owners were friends with Bob Hope and every fabric & wall covering is pink and peach floral. So like I said…old souls.
I’m not sure why covered bridges have always fascinated us. Maybe because they are something we don’t have here in the south? Maybe we just love old wooden structures? It could be that we love any excuse for a road trip. Regardless, Eric and I have always wanted to repeat that honeymoon experience and our 2019 trip to Vermont gave us the opportunity to do so.

Vermont boasts more covered bridges per square mile than any other state, so we didn’t have to drive far to see them. We used this online map to find them and most were easy to spot. For part of our trip, we stayed in Sutton Quebec so at least one of these bridges was in Canada. I didn’t keep track of how many we saw, but here’s a photo gallery of the ones we actually stopped at (with a few extra pretties thrown in). Enjoy!
