A recent hike up Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina reminded me of how hiking with rheumatoid arthritis has shaped me into a healthier person, both mentally and physically. No, this is not a story about overcoming adversity by pushing myself beyond human limits. It’s the opposite actually. It’s about failing and what can be learned from it.
This post will either gain me some new fans, make some new enemies or at the very least entertain. I’m going to share a recent trip in which Eric and I traveled with his brother on a river cruise through the Netherlands and Belgium.
Gobsmacked is a real word, look it up. It means “overwhelmed by wonder” or “utterly astonished” and it perfectly describes how we felt getting our first glimpse of the North Cascades near Glacier Washington. Eric and I have been to some beautiful places, but only a few have rendered us speechless. Lake Superior, Faroe Islands and the west coast of Ireland make our list of gobsmackable places — and now Glacier Washington.
