Neurotic Trip Planning

Isle Skye Scotland
I may have mentioned this in the past, but I REALLY LOVE researching travel! Sometimes my research patterns get a little neurotic & I’ll bounce from one continent to the next before settling on our next destination.  I’m like an ADHD adult when it comes to travel, easily distracted & struggling to decide on one place. For example, my recent research for a 2018 trip went like such:
I ask Eric what country he wants to visit next year and he says Scotland.Scottish bagpiper Glen Coe Scotland

I start looking up hiking in Scotland and immediately fall in love with the West Highland Way.West Highland Way Scotland
But the West Highland Way has long walking days, guaranteed bad weather, & possible midges. Hmm…midges in Rum Scotland
So I look for off the beaten track places & discover Knoydart in the Highlands. Lodging & trails & no tourists sounds perfect, until I realize you must have a car. Dang!scotland
So I think to myself, “what is similar to Scotland but maybe smaller & easier to get around” — WALES!
Which is when I discover the Wales long-distance Coast Path, which looks amazing AND I’ve never heard of it AND we can do part of it as an inn-to-inn walk.
But the path is huge & I’m overwhelmed by how to pick what part to walk (because it would take at least a month to walk the whole thing). And I realize that Wales is best seen via…you guessed it…a car.car
In the meantime, images of the Isle of Skye start creeping in & even though I’m pretty sure we need a car, I can’t help but dive in. So I find all of the remote hikes & family B&Bs & I pitch it to Eric with hope in my heart…Isle Skye Scotland
And that’s a definite NO.
Then it gets bitterly cold & snows in Louisiana, & I start dreaming about sun & warmth…
And Greece! But I know I don’t want tourists, so I look for islands that cater to the hikers & naturalists.
After reviewing self-guided walking trips on Crete & Cypress, I stumble upon a website that certifies hiker friendly hotels in Greece.
And that’s when I stumble upon Sifnos, an island known for great hiking & great cooking. PERFECT!sifnos cyclades greece
Stay tuned for more on Greece, Scotland & Wales…

  1. After your mountainous hikes in Austria and Germany, I think I’d be ready for some hikes on more level ground like on a Greek island or rural European countryside!
